Darrell Green or Sammy Baugh? Or Art Monk, Charley Taylor, Larry Brown, Champ Bailey, Russ Grimm, Chris Hanburger, Paul Krause and Jerry Smith.
The NFL is picking the most valuable draft picks ever in celebration of the 75th NFL Draft on April 22. Fans can vote through April 18 on NFL.com.
But, the wording is everything. If we’re talking the best draft pick ever among the 10 Redskins named, best meaning the sharpest selection in not necessarily being the obvious selection, then Green should win. He was this “itty bitty guy from Texas” who went on to play 20 years with the Redskins. Baugh was an easier choice as a game-changing player with a national reputation.
If we’re talking which player was more valuable to the franchise, then it’s Baugh hands down. He saved the Redskins franchise as it arrived in Washington on shaky financial ground. Baugh then played 16 seasons with two titles and revolutionized passing in the sport.
So, it’s all in the wording. Best pick is Green, but most valuable pick is Baugh.
